Manscaping 101

Feb 9, 2022Men's spa

Recent talks on the idea of manscaping have revealed that hygiene is, and should be, just as important for men, as it is to women. Cosmopolitan men are taking grooming seriously and it is no longer limited to traditional haircuts and beard trimming. Along with skin and hair care regimens, one such practice that men are now exploring is waxing, also commonly referred to as manscaping!

The sight of men screaming in pain as a strip of wax was ripped off from their chest in mainstream television is one that is difficult to shake off (especially for first-timers), but that does not mean one should escape from manscaping!

To make the process as efficient and pain-free as possible, we at Jade Thread and Wax Bar, Toronto, Canada are here to equip you with the most useful tips that will help make your waxing experience as smooth as possible.

  1. Trim: Trimming your body hair to approximately ¼ or ½ inches before waxing is recommended, so that there is enough hair for the wax to grab, while ensuring that the pain involved in this process is at a minimum.
  2. Exfoliation: Regardless of where on our skin, our bodies breathe more freely when we exfoliate it. Exfoliating once a week is recommended to eliminate accumulated dead skin.
  • Pro Tip: Exfoliating a day or two before waxing is ideal, as it reduces the risk of ingrown hairs interfering in the waxing process.
  1. Monitoring Potential Reactions: Intrigued by waxing, but are unsure of how your skin would react to it? To ease this apprehensiveness, we suggest coming in for a free test patch in advance to monitor any possible reactions, such as redness or bumps (which is common). This way, you and our experienced aestheticians can better understand your skin type and make sure the correct wax, as well as the correct technique, are used during your appointment.
  2. Understanding Different Waxing Methods: Knowing the various types of wax, and waxing methods that would benefit you the most, helps prepare a little more, saving you time, confusion, and the risks that come with trial and error. Lucky for you, our staff is filled with an abundance of knowledge on all things waxing, and can answer any questions or concerns you may have!

We hope these few tips have eased some of your doubts and apprehensions about the notion of male waxing. Make sure to book an appointment with us using the following link:
